How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
Lots of hard work and always optimizing your own way of working. People who thrive in this industry, whether in-house or at an agency, develop a feel for how things need to run and what works most efficiently, especially in startups. You learn quickly what needs to be done.
Learning quickly and doing all the necessary tasks is one part of it. Being a good communicator is another, which is huge. Really being creative with that communication is also key.
For example, if I have a client who knows nothing about marketing and is just trying to run their own business, I have to change the way I communicate. Let's say it's someone who owns a pizza parlor. They're great at making pizza, but they don't know about websites, ordering systems, or how to set them up. They just want it done.
They might not know what SEO is or why it's good. Being able to communicate in this industry in various ways is crucial—for someone technical who knows what you're doing, and for someone who doesn't. You need to be able to explain the benefits and teach them in some capacity. This, along with all the other points, is probably one of the most important things that helps people thrive in this industry.
