Favorite Parts Of Working In The Consumer Electronics Industry As A Design Program Manager

Marin's passion for industrial design in consumer tech stems from a love of creating "physical products that you can touch and feel," a sentiment rooted in their background in fashion, and finds fulfillment in the tangible results of prototyping and seeing products "in the store" after working on projects at Fitbit, Peloton, and Nest. The rewarding aspect of improving people's lives through these designs is also a key motivator.

So, what do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

I've loved working in consumer electronics and consumer tech, specifically in industrial design. I think this kind of goes back to my roots in fashion. I just love designing things that people can touch, feel, and hold.

With software, there are a lot of exciting things, and we use software design in our day-to-day lives. But for me personally, I love working with physical products. I love prototyping with designers and seeing it come out of a 3D printer or back from the lab.

Being able to walk around it, visualize it in your space, and then see it in the store or showroom at the end of the project is really rewarding. That's definitely my favorite part of the industry: the actual physical products that we're building.

I think a lot of the products I worked on at Fitbit, at Palantir, and now at Nest really help people. Building something that makes someone's life easier, better, happier, or healthier feels rewarding.
