Favorite Parts of Working in the Real Estate Industry as a Quantitative Analyst
Mariana, a Quantitative Analyst at The Grupe Company, finds the real estate industry gratifying because it addresses "an inelastic demand"—people need housing—and allows for impactful contributions to communities. The work is creative and responsive to current trends, as exemplified by The Grupe Company's incorporation of "a covert room" to suit the modern work environment, ultimately leading to the rewarding experience of seeing projects completed and families moving into their new homes.

What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
That is a great question. Real estate is a very gratifying industry because demand is inelastic; people need housing.
Being in this industry right now is really interesting, mainly in California, because of the housing supply. When we talk about projects, we're not just creating software to help a business; we're building a home for people to live.
It's really an impactful business, and you have to be creative, thinking about what people need nowadays. Trends also play a role, like COVID and more people spending time at home due to the hybrid work environment.
We have to keep our product relevant. Rupe has done a great job adding what they call a "covert room," which is a workstation on their floor plan.
It's not about just building something; it's about building something that is long-lasting in people's lives. Even though we're focused on rental communities, a lot of people are renting nowadays because home prices are really high, along with interest rates and all that.
It's really nice to see when we start construction, the progress, and when people start moving in and leasing. Then families start living in the community, and you see the final project. We have an opening for the clubhouse, and people are actually using it. It's gratifying; it's very gratifying.
