As someone who identifies as an immigrant, how has that identity impacted how you've navigated your career?

When I first graduated, I just wanted a job anywhere. As I mentioned, I was working at an immigration law firm, which was a nice place to start. I was also looking for an HR role, but those weren't readily available.

I was applying for anything I could find. However, when I joined an organization like DHL, and seeing that at the time, the CEO and the head of HR were immigrants, it was really motivating.

They had experience with people who had DACA status or were undocumented. This provided solidarity, and as I advanced within the organization, I felt more secure. I felt like if anything happened with my immigration status, I would have a backup family or a security net in another country.

Even after moving on from DHL, I still wanted that kind of security net. Now, I'm at a global startup with offices worldwide. It has a global mindset.

Unless I start my own business, I don't see myself working at a company that isn't global. I like the idea of a global brand because it provides security for myself and solidarity with like-minded people who have similar experiences or family dynamics.
