What skills are most important for a job like yours?

I'd say the number one most important skill is being able to find information from unusual places. A lot of the clients I work with have a problem and don't know how to solve it.

They'll ask questions like, "How do we learn more about this part of the industry?" "How do we get VCs to want to give us money?" or "How do we solve this engineering problem?" I've found that it's really important to be able to take what you learn from one project and apply it to others.

It's important to be able to dig through the internet and teach yourself things. If there's a concept you don't fully understand but need to for a project, being a self-learner and a quick learner is very important.

The last thing is communication. Going from training as an engineer or scientist to a job where you have to talk to people often at a high level is difficult. As an engineer, your brain is trained to be very precise and exact, and you have to train yourself out of that a little bit. So, I'd say communication and being able to find information in creative ways.
