What A Founder And CEO At Jevan Consulting Wishes They Had Known Before Entering The Healthcare Industry

Lisa, Founder & CEO at Jevan Consulting, LLC, wishes someone had prepared them for the "very, very high" stress levels in healthcare, even in non-clinical roles like supply chain, and also for the "completely overwhelming" bureaucracy often found in large healthcare organizations, while balancing that with the potential for "very, very rewarding" experiences. Developing strong stress-management and navigation skills would have been invaluable.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?

I think before going into the industry, I wish I'd known how much things can change. It can also be quite stressful working in healthcare, even if you're not a clinician.

I remember a time when I was in supply chain, trying to get the right supply products to patients. The level of stress in healthcare is very, very high.

I wish I had known that you need excellent abilities to manage in a stressful environment because it can be overwhelming. I didn't realize this, as I assumed only clinicians experienced a lot of stress. Even those supporting them can face significant stress.

On the other hand, it's also important to understand that it can be very rewarding. I wish I had known this beforehand, as it's a real positive.

Another thing to consider in healthcare, especially in large organizations, whether you're a provider or a supplier, is the level of bureaucracy. It can be completely overwhelming. You need specific skills to manage through it and not let it frustrate you.

Those are a few things I wish I had known before entering the healthcare industry.
