What is one lesson that you've learned that has proven significant in your career?

One significant lesson I learned in my career was about my unique skills. I'm a CPA, and I went from being a hospital CFO to a hospital COO. In the beginning, I was overwhelmed, surrounded by clinicians and physicians, and I don't have a clinical background.

I felt intimidated, especially by the physicians. But then I realized I have unique skills. I understand business and process, which is valuable in a hospital environment and in my corporate VP roles.

Once I recognized what I brought to the table, things changed. No one expected me to understand the clinical aspects of healthcare, but I could discuss the business, operational processes, and financial elements. This led to a newfound respect.

Another crucial lesson was not being afraid to take calculated risks. I was also never afraid of difficult conversations or conflicts, which many people tend to avoid. This was a great learning experience for me.
