What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
I recently completed my law degree. I was able to use the GI Bill benefit from my time serving in the military.
I also passed the bar exam, which was a significant challenge. I'm glad that part is over.
My goal as a lawyer is to advocate for changes in the criminal legal system and other areas of law. I want to ensure laws account for the dignity and humanity of all people.
This may seem idealistic, but I believe significant change requires idealism. Throughout history, leaders who've made a difference, like Martin Luther King Jr., were deeply idealistic.
Dr. King saw a vision of America united, not divided by race. While that dream is not fully realized, he made immense progress.
I love that the law impacts every aspect of our lives. It reflects what our society and culture truly value.
I was thinking about a quote by Dr. Cornell West, a brilliant academic and advocate. He said, "Justice is love out loud."
I believe the legal system offers a window into our values. When we stop valuing people and see them only as means for personal gain, society and our moral fiber begin to crumble.
I do not agree with this. As someone who swore to support and defend the Constitution when I took my oath as a military officer, I believe that Constitution and those laws must apply equally to everyone.
They should apply equitably to all people, not just the wealthy or those from certain backgrounds. Justice must apply to all.
There are many ways to advocate for justice, and it looks different in various situations. I'm passionate about being involved in the law to understand these structures and hopefully contribute to positive change.
