What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

A lot of what I enjoy about this position is also what I enjoyed about teaching: interacting with the community and having that responsibility. It's a weighty thing, but I hold it as such an honor to be able to serve my community.

I was a UCLA student, and now I get to come back and actually serve and look out for the community. It's such a huge honor to be able to do that, and I really enjoy that aspect of it.

Being a lead officer in particular, I also enjoy the autonomy. I get to be on my own in a particular area and interact with the community. I really don't have a lot of oversight in how I interact with the community, I suppose.

I get to be myself. I'm not just a police officer; I'm Lindsay Scherer, a police officer, sure, but I'm Lindsay, and I get to interact with the community. I think that's so important in this role: to humanize us and show that we do care about the community.

The large majority of police officers are good and want to do good for the community. So, that's what I enjoy most: being able to show the community how much we care and how much we want to help them and be there for them.
