What does the day in the life of a vice president of IT operations look like?
Well, I have to save my week. My day-to-day is very planned out. I do have regular, biweekly or monthly meetings with my team members and with department heads, as I mentioned before, the leads.
We discuss software needs and issues that are going on in the organization. I also keep up with our customer-facing ticketing systems to ensure that all IT and systems requests have been appropriately answered per our service level agreements.
Additionally, I meet regularly with our software and tech vendors, as well as consultants. Having that relationship is super important in this field to know what's changing and what to expect. We also discuss product costs and licensing.
We're constantly meeting to ensure we have the right products in place and are getting the best pricing within our budget.
On a high level, I regularly meet with my direct reports for project management. We constantly have a project list of technical and software projects that we are implementing company-wide, so our year is always planned out a year in advance.
Someone can't just sneak in and say, "Hey, we want to do this." So, really my day-to-day is managing the projects that we have in place, as well as meeting with the team regularly and our software partners.
