What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
For my job specifically, many college students who are graduating or about to graduate come into coaching for various reasons. A lot of our coaches have gone on to become speech-language pathologists, nurses, or teachers.
If you want to work with kids, a job like this can be very beneficial. Similar to a teacher, you develop lesson plans and engage in parent communication. Many people might overlook the importance of talking to parents.
Teachers often focus on in-classroom work, but here we also learn to communicate effectively with parents. We learn to praise their child's accomplishments and also discuss areas where improvement is needed. Learning to have these conversations is crucial.
A significant part of our business involves our office staff. They handle payments, answer phone calls, and manage our computer systems.
I've seen people interview for office positions without basic typing skills. I learned to type in school, but I know that has changed. Having and developing those skills is important.
We work with many different software systems, so it's important that this role can provide learning opportunities. Something I realized early on is that an internship or entry-level position in a different industry can still prepare you for your desired job. These experiences teach valuable lessons that you can apply to future positions.
