What is one lesson that you've learned that has proven significant in your career?

As a business owner, one lesson I've learned is that you need to find people who can listen to you vent and support you. These individuals shouldn't necessarily be your friends, family, or partner.

Ideally, they're people who aren't even in your industry but share the same business owner title. This means having mentors and people you can talk to about these specific challenges.

In your role, like for me as a business owner, it's not appropriate to complain to your managers about business owner-specific issues. That's not their job, and it's not something they need to worry about.

I think many people vent to their partners, family, or friends, but I feel that's not always the most appropriate avenue. Having people you can talk to, like other gym owners or business owners in general, has been incredibly important for me this past year.

It's helped me grow, especially as we've owned our business for a year. This network has provided me with mentorship, understanding, and other viewpoints I might not have otherwise considered.

Having been in this industry and my specific job for so long, seeing outside perspectives from people at other gyms and in other industries has made a huge difference. It's about finding those people and networking so they can truly be your team and support system as a business owner, outside of your day-to-day work.
