Transcript
Sac State has been instrumental in my career journey. It provided me with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in my chosen field.
The professors and faculty were incredibly supportive. They offered guidance, mentorship, and valuable insights that helped shape my professional development.
I think earlier it provided me with a lot of networking opportunities, specifically with my major. The liberal studies major going into teaching is a huge part of Sac State; it's a really big program, so I think there are a lot of opportunities within it. Sac State has fostered that.
There's also a credential program that goes along with that. When I planned to become a teacher, that was the path I was going to go on. I saw a lot of my fellow friends in college go through that path, also earning masters through Sac State. I think it can provide a lot of opportunities.
I think there is a give and a take with it being a smaller school. A lot of times it was described as a commuter school or a transfer kind of school. I think that made it a little hard to develop relationships in the beginning; you have to really seek them out.
It's not just going to happen organically as it might at a bigger school. So, I think it's important to have that in mind. If you really look for clubs, rec sports teams, whatever it is, then you can find that community and hopefully grow that, but it's not just going to happen on its own.
I had a lot of really wonderful professors at Sac State that cared about me as a person, not just as someone in the classroom for a semester. They wanted to see me succeed past college in my career. I've emailed with them after and updated them, or they've asked and updated me.
It's been really cool to feel like I have people in my college career that care about me beyond just those four years. They really were a big part of that time. A lot of us had the same teacher for maybe multiple classes, so we saw them often. I know that's not always the case with a lot of majors, but I think Sac State and my major specifically really provided that opportunity for me and my fellow college students.
