What Type Of Person Thrives In The Coaching Industry, By Founder Coach Lauren Wong
To thrive in the coaching and consulting industry, one must be a "self-starter" with excellent time management and communication skills, coupled with resilience in the face of rejection and a willingness to experiment; above all, "genuine authenticity" is crucial, as clients can sense when a coach truly cares about their success versus merely seeking financial gain. How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
As a self-starter, you have to push yourself. When I decided to start my business, the first thing I did was create a business plan. Then, I pushed myself to find clients. You have to be able to do this.
You need to be willing to push yourself out there. I've already mentioned time management and good communication skills, as well as the willingness to experiment and explore.
I would add the ability to deal with rejection. You have to be able to say, "Okay," and keep going. I talked to 50 to 100 people over a year just to get clients.
Only about 20-30% actually talked to me. Being able to deal with rejection and remain resilient, believing you will keep trying new things, is important.
Another crucial element is being genuine about what you do. Sometimes coaches and consultants just try to make you feel good without offering concrete ideas, or they might be faking it.
It's very important to truly love coaching, consulting, and inspiring people. It's not just easy money. You have to be patient with people.
Being genuine is key, and my clients tell me they can feel that I genuinely care. This authenticity is super important if you want to thrive in this industry.
