What did you do in college to set you up for success in your career?

I've already mentioned trying everything, and I think that rings true in university. But let's be realistic; don't try *everything*. If you're in university now, you know there's just too much to do.

What I'd really emphasize here is to explore. College is a place where you can fail and experiment. You can try different things. I always tell people to try and experiment as much as they want, just avoid things like death or a crucial disease that can handicap your life, and jail.

While you can still succeed even if you go to jail, it takes a lot of time away. Time is an asset and a resource we can't get back. When you're at university, learn more about yourself. The more different things you do, even if they're not for you, it helps.

Let's say you join a dance club and realize dance isn't for you. But you tried it, and that helps you learn more about yourself. I think that's what university is all about: learning more about yourself. When you join different groups or pursue things outside your comfort zone, you learn to communicate with others.

Personally, one thing I did in university that really changed my life and set me up for success was studying abroad. I didn't go into university planning to do that, but I saw a friend who loved it. I saw how much she grew, so I did it myself.

Honestly, it was one of the best things I did because it pushed me out of my comfort zone. I had never traveled abroad for that long without family. I met so many different people and learned to communicate with them.

I use those communication skills, dealing with different personalities, almost all the time in my role. I don't know which client will be different or how they'll act, but through my experience communicating with diverse people, pushing myself, feeling more confident, and knowing who I am, it all helps me as a coach.

I need to project confidence, and luckily, I feel confident overall. But I have to support my clients, and that means I need to feel confident in who I am too. So, for me, try things in college, experiment. You can even fail a class and make up for it. So, don't try everything, but explore.
