What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
There are a few entry-level positions available. One is in social media, as content creators are in high demand. You can start your own content creator account, which helps brands and provides a way to get your foot in the door. This can lead to full-time positions.
Email marketing, though slightly outdated, along with SMS marketing, remains a significant revenue driver for many brands. Nurturing your funnel with these strategies results in recurring revenue, which is a valuable aspect of marketing that doesn't cost a lot. This makes it a good startup position.
Learning platforms like Klaviyo, a major email partner with Shopify, is a great place to start and doesn't require a lot of time. There are also many webinars available, making it an excellent entry role. Lastly, paid media is still relevant.
While expensive, paid media is still a viable way to get your brand in front of the right customers. Learning Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and display ad platforms like Criteo are important skills.
I actually believe influencers are on their way out, or at least will look very different in the next five years. The rates have become unpredictable and excessively high. Influencers will still exist, but it will likely be more in the form of brand partnerships over several months, rather than paying a large sum for a single post. This approach tends to yield better results.
