What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
For me, setting boundaries has been really significant. I also prioritize my mental health.
I'm sure some people who have been in this industry longer might disagree, but I say this because many of us are very ambitious. I was a very ambitious 21-year-old working in casting and completely burnt myself out. I was trying to please everyone and work for too many people.
I was trying to do too much, and in the end, it wasn't worth it. By taking the time to set boundaries, even in my current role, I sent a text to my folks right before this call saying I wouldn't be reachable for 30 minutes.
By setting that boundary, I know I won't be stressed or worried during this interview about what I might be missing. Setting boundaries is beneficial. It helps you be a better communicator. As an assistant or in any career role, this will only benefit you as you advance.
