**Q12: College ideas for success**
What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career?
In undergrad, as a theater student, I got more involved in the film side. I participated in student films, did casting for them, and even sat in on classes where they needed an actor. This helped me step out of theater and into film.
I also stayed busy with a few jobs to afford school. I worked with the Brew Crew on campus, which was fun, and also as a photographer for the athletics team. This sharpened my eye for good photography and taught me to edit with different software. Being a good editor for photo or video is still a useful tool in the media field today.
There were also a few theater classes that were fundamental. The vocal development class taught by Dr. Katherine Daad is incredible. She teaches you to unlock your voice for interviewing, public speaking, or even just carrying on conversations. Being able to speak clearly and confidently is huge, and she really taught us that.
LMU alumni events were also really cool. Getting involved in any resource, job fair, or recruiting event on campus is beneficial. LMU wants to help their students, and I learned that while attending school there.
Taking advantage of free events as a student is valuable. Even as a working professional, I've returned to campus for events to meet new people from the same school, connect with recruiters, and network with others from different industries. The networking side of LMU is huge.
So, if you're looking for advice, get involved on campus in a job or club. If you want to work in film, get involved in the film department through student films or classes. Take vocal development with Dr. Catherine Dadda – it's a huge life changer. And definitely get involved with LMU events.
