What do you enjoy most about your roles?
As an auditor, the most enjoyable part for me was reaching about 80% through an audit. By then, I had developed subject matter expertise in that particular program, department, or agency.
This expertise allowed me to truly hold my own in progress meetings within the auditor's office. These meetings involved executives asking the audit team questions about their work and the program. They wanted to understand if we were on track with our estimated budget and what findings we had.
When you're that far along, the staff tend to be much better. It's not really until then that the staff have that quick back-and-forth ability to answer any question and even anticipate them.
It's hard to explain, but it's almost like when you're in a conversation with a friend about a hobby you know well. You can answer questions easily and rattle things off. If they mention a news article about the hobby, you've likely read it and have an opinion ready. It’s a similar experience.
