What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?

In wealth management specifically, an entry-level position is most likely to be as a client service associate. While some roles may be more investment-oriented, most are service-oriented.

Essentially, you're helping clients with the day-to-day operations of their finances. This includes putting together statements, sending out wires, opening accounts, doing trades, buying securities, and placing orders. This is where most people get started, and it's a great way to learn all the different parts of the business from the ground up.

Another route is to focus less on operations and more on portfolio and investment. These roles are a bit rarer and require more experience, but they do exist.

The third kind of bucket is sales roles. You would be selling mutual funds or products to other advisors or within wealth management. A sales role involves building a book of clients and bringing revenue to the firm.

However, most people start in client service.
