What does a day in the life of a professional development manager look like?

It varies, which I think is actually a big part that I like about the job. Different things happen during different times of the year and different days.

Generally speaking, a typical day will be a combination of some student appointments. Getting face-to-face time with students, seeing where they're at with their career journey, and then how I can assist them in that pathway is always great. I would say there's anywhere from four to five of those per day.

Depending on the time of the year, it can also involve setting up events and making sure external partners are getting to campus. This means setting out logistics and information that needs to happen in order for these recruiters to get in front of our students.

The accounting program at USD also puts on a lot of events, like "Firms in the Foyer" and "Meet the Firms." All of which involve a lot of the operations side of the work.

I also really like working with our student organizations. The accounting society and Beta Alpha Psi host a lot of weekly meetings. Making sure that students are aware of those so they can develop professionally is something I'm responsible for.
