What are some of the main responsibilities within your current role?
I manage two functions: financial planning and treasury. I work directly under the CFO of the company.
We are a small public company with about a billion dollars in top-line revenue. Financial planning involves taking our historical financial results, how we performed each month and quarter, and building projections to forecast our performance for the rest of the year.
At the beginning of each year, we set a budget for the new fiscal year. This rolls into management's forecasts and decision-making, which is also disclosed to the public through earnings calls.
On the other side of my duties are treasury-related tasks. Treasury means running the day-to-day cash operations of our company, ensuring we have funds for payroll, purchases, and corporate expenses.
We also manage our debt. Sometimes we need to borrow money to cover these expenses. Additionally, we invest our extra funds for liquidity to earn interest.
To sum it up, it's really cash management, and that's the best descriptor for our treasury operations.
