As a young mom pursuing higher education, how did that impact how you navigated your career?

When I first applied and was accepted to California State University Chico's graduate program, I had also recently found out that I was pregnant. So, in my two-year master's program, after my first year, I had a brand new baby at home with a partner, and I was really overwhelmed, to be quite honest.

Anyone still pursuing a degree or higher education, especially if you're looking to go back to school with kids, I would say that if you find yourself in that position, it's so important to have a really strong support network. This could be friends or family who can be there for you as you put in the time and effort to study and pursue all of your projects, get your research done, and complete your papers.

Make sure you really have a strong network of people who can root for you and support you throughout that journey. But then also, don't be afraid to ask questions and take advantage of programs and services that are available to you.

Don't be afraid to go to your counselor or advisor and ask, "What are my options? What's out there to help me get through this?" Because there are people, programs, and services that want to support students like you in your position. So don't be afraid to go and ask for help.
