What is one lesson that you've learned that's been significant for your career?
Marketing used to really freak me out, especially if it felt formal and overwhelming. It felt a little transactional, like at a networking event.
I used to think I'd have to go and talk to people. But I think just reframing that in my head is important.
It's really about connecting with others, and that is how you can be successful. Building genuine connections with people is key in any career.
Once you see it that way, take the time to get to know people. Write down little things. If they mention their birthday, write it down and send them a note.
If they mention they have kids, a dog, or a hobby, being able to follow up on that and develop a personal connection will really help you. Then, when you have questions, or not necessarily need something but want advice or mentorship, you'll have that greater network of people who will drop anything to talk to you because you've formed a genuine connection with them.
