What A Career And College Specialist At Martinez School District Wishes They Had Known Before Entering The Education Industry
A challenging aspect of the Career and College Specialist role that Kee wasn't prepared for was the need to "put cat" - constantly trying to attract the attention of busy high schoolers who are often disengaged and don't check their emails. Kee wishes someone would have shared effective communication strategies for reaching this demographic without resorting to tactics like creating a TikTok account.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?
I'd never heard of that term until I started the job. I was talking to a college counselor, and she laughed.
She asked why I didn't want to put "cat." Because the constant need to attract the attention of really busy seniors with their sports really caught me off guard. I didn't realize how little they knew about what was going on.
They don't check their emails, which blows my mind. I wish people had told me how to communicate with them. I'm not making a TikTok account, contrary to what others might say. That was hard.
