What does a day in the life of a chief of staff look like?
You never know. We wear our firefighter hats every single day. I constantly joke that if I have a pre-planned day of things I'm going to accomplish, I might as well wipe those out the window because it's going to change by 11 o'clock.
Typically, what we'll do is meet with our executive leadership team. We make sure that we are moving forward on all things and all initiatives that we have in the pipeline. We ensure the projects and initiatives are well underway and we are tracking accordingly.
On the HR side, we have multiple different worksites. We have HR business partners headed up at each site. So I'll check in with each one of them and support them however they need during that day. If any conflicts arise, I take the lead and work through them with our site HR representatives. We either resolve them or figure out how to get a plan in place to get them resolved.
Otherwise, throughout the year, there are HR initiatives and strategies that we have to work towards. Things like open enrollment, benefits renewals, performance management reviews, and year-end talent development. Quarterly, there are things we have to work on, and initiatives that daily affect those quarterly impacts.
