How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I would definitely describe PR professionals who thrive as extroverts. They are people who are not afraid to raise their hand, volunteer for something, or throw their opinion out there.
They're also unafraid of their big ideas. I always grew up as the friend who was like, "Oh, we're all going to the movies? Let's make t-shirts!" And then everybody was like, "Calm down, you're doing too much."
I always had big ideas. I wanted to make stuff, do stuff, make it bigger, create a theme around something. Everybody was like, "That's doing a lot."
But in my industry, I do that, and everyone says yes. Everyone is just kind of the same. Everyone feels unafraid of having big ideas and saying them out loud.
They're not afraid that someone might think their idea or question is silly or stupid, because no matter what, you're putting an idea out there, you're making people think, you're having a conversation. And I think those are the folks who thrive.
