What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
I love that you can approach it from the perspective of being a consumer as well as from the perspective of being in the industry itself, building for a consumer. When I look back at my career, I have these lightning-in-a-bottle moments where those two things have really intersected.
One role I had was an Instagram brand development lead. This was right when we were launching ads on Instagram, pretty soon after acquiring IG as an app.
For me, I'm a photographer, which is a personal hobby. I love taking photos and being able to speak about the ephemerality of Instagram. Stories are there for 24 hours, so you can have a place of permanence on your feed and a place of ephemerality in stories.
Really owning that narrative and feeling it in my heart as a consumer who loves the product, and as someone who's behind the product itself, that's a bright spot. That's why I love the industry now. You have various moments like that in time in tech, but where you really love the product as a consumer, it's a very special feeling.
