What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
The one lesson I've learned is to be appreciative and have a lot of gratitude. Sometimes, when the job is difficult, especially if you're at a bank that needs a lot of help with high-risk practices, you come in thinking you need to fix things.
The people you're working with are trying their best, but there might be other challenges and hurdles in place. At the end of the day, I tell myself I have to be really grateful for what's already available.
Every job will have different challenges. In a troubled bank, if people are trying their best, there's hope. If you're at a strong bank that seems to care about risk, that's a different set of challenges.
But you're at a strong bank with a lot of structure, so you can work with that. Being flexible and knowing there's always a way out, and just being thankful for the environment you're in, is important.
