What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
In my current role as chief of staff, my responsibilities are pretty broad. It's a wide aperture for a job, and I operate within the gray area.
A main portion of my job is translating the strategic level down to the operational levels. This means taking executive-level decisions, made with a broad context from politics to major money investments, and translating those initiatives back down to the operational teams.
I make sure our middle managers and technicians are operating in the same direction, ensuring everyone is aligned. A big part of this is connecting resources that otherwise wouldn't be connected. Company alignment is probably the biggest goal of my job.
On a daily basis, I interact with different groups, going from meeting to meeting to pitch my input and gather information. I also gauge cultures and attitudes around the facility. Wherever I detect a barrier or roadblock, I connect resources and help alleviate those issues.
A big part of my role is also culture change. This involves shifting a legacy mindset of "we do this because we've always done it this way" to one that reframes questions like, "I understand you said this is impossible, but if it were possible, how did we do it?" This helps reshape mindsets into forward-thinking thought processes.
