College Experiences That Helped A Program Manager At Meta Succeed
Josh, a Program Manager at Meta with an International Relations background, credits the "group papers, group projects, and presentations" required by the major for developing crucial public speaking and teamwork skills. This experience proved invaluable in the tech industry, where Josh notes many possess strong technical skills but lack the confidence to "get up and make their case," a deficit Josh did not face due to their undergraduate training.

What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career?
As an international relations major, you often work on group papers and projects. These typically involve presentations, either to the professor or the entire class.
I found that the public speaking skills I developed were incredibly helpful when I transitioned into the technology sector. Many people in tech come from technical backgrounds, and they struggle with public speaking.
They can be more introverted and get stressed about presenting their ideas. However, in a major that requires teamwork, critical thinking, and presenting a deliverable, those skills and the confidence they build are invaluable later on.
