Biggest Challenges Faced By A Senior Consultant At Deloitte
Jorge's biggest challenge transitioning from a nonprofit to Deloitte Consulting is adapting to "the corporate work setting," specifically the intense pace and frequent changes in management, requiring constant relationship-building and alignment with different managers on various projects. This shift from a familiar, three-year managerial relationship to a dynamic project-based structure presents a significant ongoing challenge for the Senior Consultant.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?
There are two challenges I'm still working through. Before consulting, I worked in education and the nonprofit space, on a recruitment team. I had a manager for three years, and the pace in nonprofit is different.
It's still fast-paced, but it doesn't feel as intense. Going from that to corporate consulting was a pretty difficult culture shift to manage. The way of working is different, priorities feel more urgent, and it's a lot more fast-paced.
Also, with consulting, you get a different manager for each project. If you have ten different projects, you have ten different managers. Consistently building relationships with each manager, understanding their work style, and what they expect from you, and how that differs from your other managers, is really challenging. You constantly have to be aligned, and it's so easy to find misalignment.
So, for me, the biggest challenge was adapting to the corporate work setting and constantly finding alignment with a new manager for each project.
