What does the day in the life of a merchandise manager look like?
For our in-person events, we physically have to be there the entire weekend. We travel all around the US, so we either fly or drive depending on proximity. We handle all the transactions and are there at the booth.
We sell everything from t-shirts to ping pong equipment and other fun items for people to cheer on their teams. We also gather feedback to see if they want items that are more team-focused or relevant to their particular area.
When working remotely, we have many online meetings where we discuss how merchandise might tie into general marketing, ticket sales, our competitions, and the fan experience. This involves a lot of internal team collaboration.
We also reach out to other brands to build partnerships and relationships within the community. This helps us push merchandise at local table tennis clubs where members can see Major League Table Tennis and want to buy something to support their team.
We also work with ambassadors who are passionate about the sport. We identify these individuals and empower them with the equipment and materials to help promote our brand. This encourages more people to learn about table tennis as a sport and why Major League Table Tennis, the first professional ping pong league, is important to America.
