What skills are most important for a job like yours?

I would definitely say emotional regulation is key when working with people, especially children. Depending on the health coaching aspect, which can involve children, shared experiences can be deeply emotional and personal. Knowing your own emotional regulatory practices is important so you can stay present with the other person.

This also relates to a job at UT. When working with students who have experienced capital T trauma, staying regulated yourself helps them to stay regulated.

A large part of this job is also being entrepreneurial. This means having a lot of autonomy and being able to stay disciplined and structured in your routines. This keeps you moving forward.

Communication is huge. This involves communicating with the people you're directly working with, sending concise emails, and understanding incoming information. It also means being able to de-escalate situations.

You also need to be able to provide feedback. This can be hard, especially when shifting into a supervisory role and coaching people on how to interact with students.

So, entrepreneurial autonomy, communication, and agility are important. Being agile means being able to shift from one plan or path to another quickly. And, of course, being hardworking.
