What skills are most important for a job like yours?
Considering I have a couple of different skills, I think, without making it very technical, having the right attitude, being positive, and being solution-focused is really important. Adding value wherever you can also goes a long way.
If you can take it a step further and try to do a little bit extra, to exceed expectations, I think that also goes a long way. Having been a former employee and now employing people, when somebody takes that extra step, goes above and beyond, and takes initiative, I think it says a lot.
It really means that they care about their work and take pride in it. I also think being open-minded is important. As I've gotten older and more experienced, I feel like I don't know as much as I thought I did when I was younger.
Being open-minded to learning and hearing other people's perspectives and experiences is crucial. So, really listening – I try to talk very little and listen more – is key. Something you may think of in a certain way, somebody else is going to think of differently. They may be right, and you may be wrong, or together you may come up with an even better solution.
