What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
Education is a very high-stress job, whether you're a counselor, a principal, or in school leadership. Teachers and anyone else in education will tell you that some days are not easy.
I've had many teachers ask me how to get out of teaching but stay in education. I think it's just the reality of how challenging it is to be in the field. So, resilience is definitely a lesson I've learned.
As much as there may be challenges and stress, there are also equal, if not more, incredible days. I also think you have to surround yourself, both inside and outside of your job, with positive people.
If your friends and family are constantly negative about their jobs or yours, it hurts your own energy levels. Even if it has nothing to do with your job, negative energy can influence your motivation and inspiration.
To summarize, stay true to yourself and be dedicated to what you want to do. At the same time, make sure you surround yourself with people who have positive energy and mindsets. That will influence how you define your day-to-day experience.
