What skills are most important for a job like yours?

First, being inquisitive and curious. As auditors, we have to ask a lot of questions to get to the bottom of things. You have to get in the habit of really asking questions, probing, and investigating different matters with a curious mindset.

Next, communication is also really important. We manage relationships with the people we audit, and that's crucial to us. We need to be able to communicate efficiently and effectively, both verbally through meetings and through our written reports and emails.

We want to be careful with how we're communicating different messages. We need to use people's time wisely while also getting our points across effectively.

Lastly, the ability to learn quickly is very important. We audit various topics that cover the entire company. You'll typically begin an audit on a subject that you know very little about and then walk away proficient in the process. In that time, you're learning about the subject matter, asking the right questions, and you need to be nimble to hop to different subjects while also going deep enough to understand them. This helps you get to the bottom of things quickly.
