What skills are most important for a job like yours?
The most important skill I feel is necessary is very good communication. I have to be direct, clear, friendly, and tactful.
I have to be someone people want to talk to, because no one works with me out of obligation. They're doing this because it's cool to have an author come and talk. They think, "We should do this; it would be really helpful."
But I have to fit this into my schedule as an outside organization. So I have to make myself feel valuable to the group, and therefore, make the author feel valuable.
I've often been called a cheerleader, so that's kind of what I do. I cheerlead for climate change, for saving the planet.
I'm a salesperson for saving the planet, so I need really good communication that makes people want to reply to me and talk to me. I want them to have a good meeting and feel like they want to have another one. They want to keep engaging with me because I'm bringing them value they wouldn't otherwise have.
