What sort of skills are most important for a job like yours?

As a creative director, there are some basic, hard skills you'll want to have. You need to know how to write and tell stories through writing. A lot of times, writing scripts, developing treatments, or just putting an idea on paper is where it all starts.

One of my favorite skills, which I'm proud to have developed and believe is critical, is the ability to edit. This applies to editing content and film. Many tools, like the Adobe suite, make this much easier now. With the creator economy, people are leveraging TikTok and Instagram for micro-editing.

These skills are incredibly valuable because they help you understand how to architect and build an idea. I definitely value these skills in my teammates. I always continue to try to keep myself sharp by editing film and stories whenever I get the chance.

Beyond that, there are skills that might not sound like traditional skills, but trust me, they are. Curiosity, being fearlessly curious about ideas, the world, and creativity itself, is a really important skill to have.

And beyond that, confidence is one of the most important skills to hone. When you go into a pitch meeting or try to present an idea, it's like chumming the waters, and your audience can sense when you're not confident about the idea you're bringing to the table.

Even if it's something you're passionate about, being able to prove your confidence in your idea is invaluable. The fact that you're standing in the room, delivering the pitch and sharing your idea, is one of the most invaluable skills you can possess.
