What do you enjoy most about being in education and academia?
Connected to a previous question, I think about education. I really like the interaction in the classroom. Just the chances of being exposed to so many people from different backgrounds and industries are amazing.
That exposure, if you have your eyes open, keeps you up to date. You learn about so many businesses, interesting things, and roles. I do marketing, and in a class of 60 or 70, there are always five to 15 people who have done marketing for a while and may know more than you in different areas.
So, you just learn from them and from other backgrounds, activities, or experiences. I feel very lucky to be exposed to so many things.
In terms of the research side of our business or our lives, I find it very fulfilling how intellectually challenging it is. It really forces you to be as sharp as you can in your theorizing and in how you write it up and explain it. You have to be very precise, which can sometimes be a bit frustrating.
But on the positive side, it really shapes the way I think, the way you express yourself, and the way you document things. I think that position is good for the most part.
