What does the day in the life of a managing director of programs and communications look like?
I typically have multiple volunteer meetings during the day, as I am managing about 80 different volunteers. I will either join team meetings or have one-on-ones with our team leads.
I will also typically go in and help with small tasks that volunteers have a hard time doing. So I'm here to both look at the big picture and help our volunteers understand strategically what is important to pursue.
But I'm also here to help with the little details of the day-to-day. Maybe someone can't get access to their accounts, or someone needs some support and to talk about their personal lives. Maybe they just got laid off, or maybe they're really struggling with their job search.
My role has a broad range of responsibilities, and my day-to-day varies; there is no typical pattern. I am usually context switching a lot, which is part of my strength and what I love doing: understanding how to make the puzzle pieces fit.
I really enjoy the fact that my days look quite different from each other. I will typically have some level of interaction with our volunteers and staff because I am in a management role.
