What Type of Person Thrives in the Content Creation Industry According to a Small Business Owner

The business owner, Howard, challenges the common perception that success in their industry requires extroversion and strong social media skills, stating "I'm not one of those typical people," while acknowledging the industry's attraction to those traits. Instead, Howard emphasizes perseverance and a unique approach, believing that passion and dedication, not a specific personality type, determine success: "if this is really your North Star...you'll figure it out. You'll thrive."

Transcript

So how do you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

I would tell you, I'm not one of those typical people. It really does track people who are very extroverted, very confident, perhaps overly confident.

Those are qualities like great at social media marketing. It's not to say that I managed to avoid all of them and still have a business. No, no, no.

I work my hardest and I would like to believe I'm mediocre at best. But it's still a space where I constantly try to grow and challenge myself.

I also approach the industry in different ways. I don't have to be on Instagram, TikTok, making reels, whatever. I can enjoy my long-form content and just writing.

I enjoy having people write back to me and say, "Hey, I love this. This was really applicable to me." I guess there's no one right way to do it.

I say that because I don't want anyone listening to think they must be A, B, C to enter this industry. No, no.

If this is really your North Star in the spaces you want to work, regardless of industry, you'll figure it out. You'll thrive.
