Hallie's biggest challenge as a Business Operations Manager at NBC Universal is navigating resistance to change within the "very old industry" of broadcast engineering, particularly convincing employees to adopt cloud technology. This challenge is compounded by the difficulties of being a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field and needing to quickly master complex technical projects despite lacking a technical background.

What is your biggest challenge as a business operations manager?
The biggest challenge is facing people and the industry that are resistant to change, especially in broadcast engineering. It's a very old industry, and while it's changing, it's slow.
The employees we work with have an outdated way of thinking. They don't believe cloud technology can solve problems they've been working on for 20 to 30 years. Bringing them into a forward-thinking approach is very difficult.
Also, being a female in this industry can be a little daunting. There aren't many females, especially at local stations, because it's more hardware broadcast-focused.
Once we move more into cloud technology, there are more females in roles like systems engineers. However, it's a slow process. For myself, coming into broadcast engineering without a technical background and having to quickly understand complex projects was really difficult. You can get imposter syndrome a bit.
Being able to believe in yourself, and making sure others believe in you, is a little difficult.
