Entry-Level Positions For Aspiring Learning Managers In Onboarding At Salesforce

Halimah, a Learning Manager at Salesforce, suggests entry-level operations roles as a good starting point for aspiring learning and development professionals, citing "a lot of the data, a lot of the coordinating, the scheduling" as key responsibilities. Alternatively, people operations roles, which often involve aspects of the employee life cycle and sometimes learning development, offer another viable entry point, as evidenced by a previous team member's career trajectory.

What entry-level positions in this field might an undergraduate college student consider?

For learning development, there are many different areas where you can gain entry-level experience. One area I usually recommend is operations.

This involves a lot of data, coordinating, and scheduling. A few of my team members started on our team by helping to coordinate and prepare. This is especially helpful if you have college or higher education experience, due to the self-directed timing and other tasks you'll handle on the operations side.

You can also start in learning development through people operations. People operations deals with the entire employee life cycle. At some companies, they also assist with learning development, allowing you to learn more in that area.

For example, the person who was doing onboarding a couple of years before me was in people operations. She handled everything related to the employee experience, and you can do that as well. These are the areas I suggest you explore to enter this field.
