What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
That's a great question, especially if you're considering entrepreneurship or an online career. You can actually start as early as college.
When I was in college, we had Instagram, but video content like TikTok or Reels wasn't really a thing yet. It's a great way to get comfortable on camera. There are so many different online roles you can pursue or support positions that allow you to learn.
We've already discussed content creation and copywriting. Integrating AI into copywriting, I think, is a huge opportunity for business owners. A lot of AI is now performing tasks that copywriters used to do.
We're seeing this reflected in current industry discussions, like the ongoing worker strike. People are concerned AI will replace their jobs. However, AI isn't going to replace your job entirely. Instead, you need to learn how to use AI to become an even bigger asset to business owners. You could even build an entire business around it.
If you want to run a business, becoming comfortable with public speaking is a huge asset. You can also explore roles like a virtual assistant. Every business owner needs help, and often, they can't handle all the small administrative tasks, emails, or answering every message and direct message they receive.
This is where a virtual assistant comes in. They get paid well, can work with many business owners, and learn the inner workings of business systems. These are excellent avenues to explore.
I would also suggest sales. You'll need sales skills in any job you pursue, but I always recommend getting into some kind of sales role. Even if you want to be a business owner, business is essentially sales at its core. It's about why someone should choose you over someone else.
You need to learn how to communicate your value, and you do that through sales and interacting with different people. So, any role in that area is beneficial.
I guess the last area would be digital marketing. Every business needs marketing, so that's another strong option.
