What is your biggest challenge in your role?
The biggest challenge in my role is figuring out which questions to ask. A lot of the time, because it is so ambiguous, we don't really know which direction to go in.
I think having a standardized framework for addressing problems has really helped. For my engineering background, there's the Lean Six Sigma methodology, which includes a technique called "five whys" where you ask "why" five times to get to the root cause.
There are also consulting frameworks you can take advantage of. This includes looking at market conditions, regulatory issues, and the company itself. You can take certain elements from those frameworks that are really helpful.
Adding some level of structure to that ambiguity is, I think, the best approach. But the challenge remains that it's hard to tell where to go.
