What does a day in the life of a budget supervisor at the LA County Child Support Service Department look like?
A typical day for me involves managing budgetary tasks, such as a fiscal budget request for the 2024-2025 budget year. I also coordinate with the team on all exhibits and projects that we need to submit to our executive team and the board of supervisors within LA County.
I oversee the implementation of financial projects and reconcile various reports, including trust fund and bank reconciliations within our department. I also work on internal and external audits, both within the county and with external auditing teams.
Additionally, I create process mapping to improve workflow efficiency for some of the processes and projects my team works on, making their jobs and lives easier. We use Microsoft Excel for about 90% of the job.
This includes helping the team build formulas and VBA coding into our workbooks. This makes things more seamless and reduces the time spent on data entry. The goal is to be more efficient and ensure teams are aligned with the department's established procedures and the new strategic plan.
