What does a day in the life of a kindergarten teacher look like?
I get to work around 6:45 in the morning. School starts at 7:15, and I arrive early to ensure my desks are organized and my morning slides are displayed. This way, students know what to do for morning work when they walk in.
I greet them with their choice of greeting and help them put their backpacks and lunch bags away. We also have social-emotional learning embedded in our day, which we do twice a day.
In the morning, we have a community circle where we discuss our activities and feelings. In the afternoon, we use those discussed feelings for creative play. We also cover core subjects like phonics, math, and reading.
During the times students attend enrichment classes, which happens twice a day, I have my prep time. I use this time for planning, texting or calling parents, making copies, and prepping lessons for when students return from enrichment.
