As an analytics engineering manager, what are your main responsibilities within your current role?

I want to explain the role first. Analytics is a new field, and many terms are thrown around, meaning different things at different companies. While I'm part of analytics engineering, you could also call me an analytics manager or data manager.

The common denominator, no matter where you go, is my role in establishing data pipelines for key business metrics. I transform this data and deliver it to stakeholders, defining our KPIs across the entire business.

For example, tracking website visitors might sound simple, but it involves how data is collected, what defines a click, and more. My key role is to look at this data and understand what it's telling us.

What analysis and insights can we gather from it? How can we use this information to drive the business forward based on what we see on the site?

My key roles include being the bridge between the business and the technical side to define KPIs. I also get into the details, analyzing campaign performance and learnings.

We look at what happened, what our takeaways are, why we think it occurred, and how to replicate success or avoid past mistakes moving forward.

You mentioned presenting this information to stakeholders. Who do you typically present to, and how do they use it?

I work closely with executive leadership, like our senior vice presidents, who head our organization from a business standpoint. A lot of what I do involves top-level metrics.

However, the nitty-gritty details involve working with our operational and internal partners. If they launch a campaign, I work with them to show how it performed and why we think it did well.

So, it's a broad range, from executives who want to know our base metrics to partners running individual campaigns who want to see their results.
