Transcript
How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I think creativity and strong communicators and writers are essential in this industry. Fundraising, communications, and marketing are all creative fields, but sometimes fundraising isn't recognized as part of that space.
I never thought this field was for me. The environmental cause sector always seemed inaccessible, even though I wanted to be a veterinarian or a scientist growing up. However, I realized I wasn't good at science, and I wrote off working for the environment for a long time.
There's space for everyone here, including creatives. Fundraising is a function of creativity and building campaigns. If you're a creative person, this is a space for you.
While there's a place for numbers-based people in fundraising, it's more of an art than a science. We need those more science-oriented individuals to support our work. Ultimately, every skill set has a place in this industry and sector, but this job functionality is for creatives.
